Harbour City Ferries operates approximately 175,000 services, transporting more than 15 million people across Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River each year. The extensive network connects 39 destinations and spans approximately 37 kilometres from Parramatta in Sydney's west, Manly in the north and Watsons Bay in the east.

About the Opportunity

Harbour City Ferries has an exciting opportunity for a Maritime Trainee to join their team in Sydney on a full-time basis.  

Throughout the traineeship, you will participate in a range of on and off the job nationally recognised training and assessment interventions. Additionally, you will engage in the daily operation, navigation, cleaning, security and maintenance of ferries, wharves and facilities. Importantly, you will experience targeted customer service and safety related training, as well as acquiring time in engineering support roles to assist in successful completion of the traineeship program.

You will enrol in (and must complete):

  • Certificate I in Maritime Operations (General Purpose Hand Near Coastal) -- MAR10313
  • Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) -- MAR20313
  • Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driving – Grade 3) -- MAR20213 

You will also:

  • Have a demonstrated ability to swim 50 metres (as issued by local swimming pool)
  • Possess the right to work in Australia.
  • Have completed of Year 10 School Certificate or equivalent
  • Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a current NSW Maritime Medical Certificate.
  • Demonstrate a commitment and interest in developing a career within the maritime industry
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to provide quality customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team
  • Demonstrate a commitment and ability to provide safe transport services and to work safely

The traineeship is expected to last for 12 months and will normally lead to a permanent role with Harbour City Ferries (subject to performance and completion of the required qualifications).
